Cold Ride

Dyl's been doin a lot of hard work behind the camera lately, so we traded spots and he smashed his bike and I pressed record. Not really like he took a break from working the camera though, he still used his expertise to get the angles. Despite the cold we still had a super fun session!

Adrian Marcoux/Sagerian/FullCircle

I've had the pleasure of riding behind Adrian's lens a few times, and his work is nothing less than captivating. He's able to capture so much feeling and movement in a photo that you need to sit for a moment to take in what you're looking at.

Adrian spent most of his summer teamed up and travelling with Taylor Sage, working on a feature film, Antonym, which we can all look forward to! Along the way Adrian's photos have carefully compiled into a masterpiece 'coffee table style' photo book. Due soon, it'll be one to get ahold of.

Check out Adrian's site for an amazing selection of photos!

Training with Brandon

Yesterday Brandon came over to do a bit of training on and off the bike. Take a look, Brandon has a new toy.

Anthill Round 2

Anthill's super packed filming scheduel brought them back to the coast to shoot more of Brandon and Stevie's seggy. Once again the weather was against us but it held out long enough for the boys to wrap up one zone we had on the list.

We witnessed one of Brandons most technical tailwhips he's ever done, which he handled like it was nothing. This shoot DEFINATELY caught some of B's most precise moves he's thrown down, leaving everyones jaw on the ground. Stevie was killing it on the hardtail despite the fact hes been out pinning his DH bike around the globe on World Cup tracks. That didn't slow him down from spinning around or goin upside down. Always a pleasure working with the Anthill crew and cant wait for their next visit!

The Still Angle

One great thing about shooting video on a DSLR is the fact that your always set up to shoot photos as well. Here is a shot of Kyle i nabbed after shooting some video. Keep your eyes peeled for more of these images.

Alpine Is Here

As promised the alpine slide is here. Its been a dream of ours to get out to explore this unreal zone that our sports legends uncovered and pioneered. Unfortunately this exploration mission happened before our 7D came in so we didnt capture any video. And sadly this dreamland is now under snow, but you can bet we have another mission planned for the future.

Coastal Crew Productions - The Webisodes

This year we are going to give you a behind the scenes look into the world of the Coastal Crew. Although you may only watch the final finished films from the comfort of your home, we want to bring you inside the lifestyle that we live. We all read about Mountain Biking in magazines and listen to the arguments between friends on who’s down tubes longer than who’s and which bike has the better head angle, but what about the lifestyle of Mountain Biking? The hanging out with your mates in the rain trying to stop procrastinating long enough to finish building the jump you started two weeks ago. The beers and parties of an evening. The places traveling takes you to. The straight up fun thats taken place on your bike. This is what people should see, this is what Mountain Biking is all about and this is what we bring to you in juicy nutrient filled filmic packages.

This teaser was filmed over the last 2 weeks since we finally purchased our own camera, the new Canon 7D. Now we can get shots crisper than a maple leaf on a frosty morning and boy have we been abusing it.

Whats Next? Our segment.

Aaron Lacrock, creator of Whats Next? Has been nice enough to upload each seggy to the web. Check out the seggy i shot with Howey below.

Alpine Mish

Tuesday we skipped out on work and set out on a mission to the greatest place on earth. Not knowing how to get where we were going, we armed ourselves with 1 shovel, one camera, one lense and 3 bikes. To say the least it was a productive adventure. Look out for a slide show of the rest of the nuggs.

MountainStyle & Good times

Dyl, Curt, Howey and myself just spent 2 weeks over in France riding bikes at the beginning of July. We werent the only Canadians in town, Steve Romaniuk, James Doerfling, Garrett Bueller, Kurt Sorge, Graham Agassiz, Boyko and the Claw were there the ride hard and bring the good times like no other. We had a few things planned for the trip and thanks to Ben Walker and Sebastien Giraldi, it all came together! Ben took a couple of us to Mount Tamaro in the Swiss Italian mountains for a few days where he had built a jump park for the resort. We did some filming for Italian TV and pinned laps on the super rowdy DH track. Ben did an amazing job of bringing everything together!
On our way back we stopped in at Scott world HQ. This is where every Scott idea, design and decision is made. Right out in the backyard they've got a huge set of jumps and a sweet pumptrack. We busted out a bunch of mini bikes and shredded everything!
Our main reason for the trip was the Chatel MountainStyle. This was the 3rd year of the big mountain slopestyle. Big rotors and big bikes were a definate for the super natural open terrain. We all had a ton of fun riding the course and the stand out move was Claw's huge 3 off the plum drop. Insane.
Top 5 was:
Kurt Sorge
Darren Berrecloth
Fabien Pedemanaud
Aari Barret
Steve Romanuik

The night before a jump jam went off and Aggy stole the show and killllllled it! Kranked Revolve was premiered in front of an epic sunset and then the celebrating began.

We had cameras rolling the whole time, so webvids are to come!

Visit from Anthill

Curtis, Dyl and I got to work on a project for Brandon and Stevies segment for Anthills premier film, 'Follow Me'. The crew came over to get things rolling for the first shoot and it was a ton of fun. We had a few complications with uncooperative weather and tight timing getting shots before Curt and I had to fly out to Europe. We did an early morning shoot to get the key shots with the good light, then caught a floatplane to the airport to barely make our international flight! We met Brendan Howey at our gate and made it to France!

Guest Post: Behind The Scenes With Dan Barham

Words And Photos By Dan Barham

The next installment of the always awesome Kranked series is a mere two weeks away - Kranked Revolve is slated for a June 1st release and from what I’ve seen already it’s destined to be the best yet.

For the second year running I’ve been lucky enough to work on stills for a section of the movie, and was yet again blown away by the level of riding, creativeness and craftsmanship that have been captured on film. It’s truly awe-inspiring, and as usual the Coastal Crew were fantastic to work with; if any aspiring pros out there want pointers in work ethic they need look no further than Dylan, Curtis and the Kyles for how it should be done - relentless optimism, professionalism and just general awesomeness is all these guys know.
In lieu of the magazine-bound action shots, here’s a sneak peak taster of some of the behind-the-scenes images from my time with the crew:
Every single bit of trail needs to be picture-perfect

Kyle's always stoked to drop in one more time

A sneaky teaser shot of one of the most insane structures I've ever seen. You won't believe your eyes when you see what we got.

Not only can Dylan shred at a pro level, he's an amazing VT editor as well.

It's often difficult to appreciate the size of some of these features without a sense of scale

Thank God for waterproof boots. I spend a lot of time in rivers.

A lot of my shots wouldn't be possible without help - Laura and Dan are killer assistants.

Wait till you see what they saw...

When Otters fight back.

Not my finest moment, Wash out during Sea Otter Dual Slalom qualifier. Dislocated shoulder.....Not a happy camper after this.

See ya in June.

1st Place yo

So the guys from the rap group called "1st Place" cruzed out to the compound yesterday, to film a music video for one of their songs called "I'm RAD". The lyrics to this song are so sick and now the music video is going to so sick! TJ the main rapper grew up mountain biking here in Nor Cal, so the first thing he did when he got out to the compound was hop on Terrys V-10 ahahahaha. We filmed everything!! I had so much fun, and A-rev and Dave the Loc cruzed up for the awesome times.....
Once I get a copy of the video Ill post it ASAP.... its going to be RADDD
Thanks Again 1st Place.
